EQUILITE'S Sore No More® Liniment is Safe to Use During Competition

READ: USEF Liniment Memo to Members

Equilite, as a proud member of the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) has always been on the forefront to ensure compliance within the many state, federal and industry agencies that govern the equine and animal health industries.

Recent developments around the world have created confusion and misinformation as to the position the USEF was taking as it related to topical liniment applications. In a recent conversation with Dr. Stephen Schumacher, Chief Administrator, Equine Drugs and Medications Program, United States Equestrian Federation; Dr. Schumacher made it clear to James Ruder, Equilite’s Director of Operations; that a clarification of the drug and medications policy was in order. James Ruder notes; "the recently released statement has given back to the equestrian community a huge gift – a sense of clarity regarding the products they can use for the care and treatment they provide their animals as it relates to topical applications."

Dr. Stephen Schumacher’s recent release clarifies the USEF position on liniment ingredients. The USEF stated "As a practical matter, provided the products containing these substances are administered only topically and as recommended by the manufacturer, there is no need for restricting their use during competitions under USEF rules. However, if these substances are used inappropriately (e.g., in a manner other than topically), this could result in a positive finding in the blood or urine of the horse, which would be a potential violation of the rules."

In correspondence between Dr. Schumacher and Mr. James Ruder, Dr. Schumacher stated, "We are not equipped to release information about every liniment on the market as there is an incredible array. However, be assured that when contacted about Sore No More (by Equilite), this office will assure our members that when used as recommended, this product will not be the source of a positive finding with its current formulation."

This past 2008 Olympic event saw some disqualifications for banned substances using capsaicin, a compound known to impact nerve cells. Equilite's Sore No More® does not contain capsaicin and should not to be confused with any product containing capsaicin.

This is great news for all Sore No More users! Thank you USEF!
